CLUB RULES

Club rules passed at the Annual General Meeting on September 1st 1987- amended at the AGM held on September 1st 1998 and at the AGM held on September 5th 2000, and also at the AGM held on September 2nd 2003.


1. The YFC member should be under 26 years of age on the 1st September of the year prior to show and sale.


2. a) Calves purchased for the Show & Sale may be shown in their first year (at the member's discretion) to compete for a dairy or beef prize; these classes wil also score points. The animals will then be shown and sold the following year. If the member chooses to take this option, then the member must notify the Advisory Committee that they intend to show their younger animal(s) at the first calf inspection (February).
b) In order for there to be a genuine sale of dairy cattle, members must notify the advisory committee at the final calf inspection whether or not they will sell their calf.


3. Each member is only allowed:-
a) Three animals in each age group of cattle classes, either two beef and one Friesian or one beef and two Friesians (i.e. a total of six.)
b) Two pairs of pigs.
c) One ewe and twin lambs and one ewe and a single lamb.


4. Cattle:-
a) Beef calves to be born between the 1st September and 31st December and may be kept on the cow for as long as the member wishes.
b) Friesian calves to be born between the 1st September and 31st December and may be kept on the cow for up to two weeks.


5. All stock keeping members are to attend a minimum of six meetings (from the AGM) prior to the Show & Sale. If this is not possible, they should submit a letter to the Club in person, before the end of March, stating a valid reason why they have not attended. If the member does not do this, they will be obliged to bring stock to the Show & Sale to be sold, but the stock will not be eligible for showing.


6. If you are on YFC business on the night of a club meeting, you will be counted as having attended that meeting.


7. The club attendance book will be available for each member to sign personally in the first half an hour of each meeting, after this point the Chairman and Secretary will sign the book. Late attendees will not be recorded as present at the meeting.


8. Sheep:-
Lambs are to be born from 1st January until 15th February and to be shown at the Show & sale with the ewe. Lambs only to be judged as best single, double and champion, with the best turned out pen including ewes and lambs.


9. All cattle and sheep to be booked in to the Advisory Member in charge of tagging calves and lambs within one month of birth for insurance purposes. Please note; no animal is insured until it is tagged.


10. The Advisory Committee will pay a nominal sum or the full value of each animal, as proof of ownership for insurance purposes; money will be deducted after the sale.


11. Pigs:-
Pigs will be purchased by the Advisory Committee in accordance with the Club each year and tagged when the Club receives them.


12. All cattle, sheep and pigs, once tagged, cannot be withdrawn from the Show & Sale.


13. Inspections and record books for cattle only, not sheep or pigs.


14. There will be five inspections for cattle, made by various members of the Advisory Committee, each year.


15. The member is expected to be present at each inspection, with the cattle on show and record books up to date. If this is not possible, a note of absence may be accepted, the Advisory Secretary should be informed prior to the inspection.


16. All cattle are to be haltered and lead at the Show & Sale.


17. All cattle bought by club members or parents at the Show & Sale must be paid for at the close of the Sale.


18. Young Farmers are to bring all cattle, sheep and pigs to the Show & Sale and are to accept the Judge's decision as final.


19. All members winning perpetual cups and shields are to return them to the Secretary of the Advisory Committee at least two weeks previous to the Show & Sale.


Handicraft Rules...

1. Senior members may enter a maximum of six out of seven classes.
2. Junior members may enter a maximum of six out of eight classes.
3. One entry per class.


These rules have been adopted, it is hoped, for the smooth running of the Club's Show & Sale and can only be altered at an Annual General Meeting.
